Valencia Basket fell to Gran Canaria 87-89 in the Liga U22 Play-In. The taronja side entered the game unbeaten after posting a solid 12-0 record in the second phase of Group B, while Gran Canaria arrived after finishing sixth in Group B.

 

Gonzalo Muinelo started the game with a lineup featuring Noyan Tolan, Álex Blanco, Marc Grau, Jorge Carot and Miguel Leitao. The visitors made the better start with a 3-7 run, but Valencia quickly tied the game thanks to a powerful dunk from Miguel Leitao. A strong reaction from the taronja side and excellent free-throw shooting by Guillem Tazo gave Valencia a 16-9 lead, which they managed to maintain until the end of the opening quarter, closing it at 23-15.

 

The second quarter began once again with Guillem Tazo leading Valencia Basket offensively, but the visitors cut the deficit with two good baskets from Arthur Tsafack. A timeout called by Muinelo helped Valencia respond, and five consecutive points from Tomas Talcis made it 32-25. The scoring exchange continued, with Talcis leading Valencia Basket and reaching 12 personal points, while Gran Canaria answered with a strong run to narrow the score to 39-36. The second half started with another basket from Tsafack, while back-to-back three-pointers from Brayan González extended Gran Canaria’s lead to 47-57. Two consecutive baskets from Jorge Carot reduced the gap to 51-57. An and-one basket by Álex Blanco cut it to 54-59, but Gran Canaria answered from beyond the arc to make it 54-62. Carot stepped up again with a three-pointer followed by a dunk, forcing the Gran Canaria coach to call a timeout with the scoreboard at 59-62. The scoring battle continued and the game entered the final quarter with the visitors leading 69-73.

 

Everything remained to be decided in the final ten minutes, and Gran Canaria pushed their lead to +7 early in the fourth quarter. Valencia Basket showed character and, led by Guillem Tazo, cut the deficit to 80-82. Two free throws by Carot tied the game at 82. Gran Canaria’s efficiency in the closing moments proved decisive, and the visitors eventually claimed an 87-89 victory to secure qualification for the Liga U22 Final Six.
