Valencia Basket’s U16 boys’ and girls’ teams are heading to the Spanish Club Championship, with the girls’ team competing in San Fernando and the boys’ team in La Línea de la Concepción, Los Barrios, and San Roque. Both teams won the Regional Championship title. This major event will take place from May 17 to 23, where the girls’ team will defend their title as reigning Spanish Champions. All games will be streamed live on the FEB’s YouTube channel.

 

Three weeks ago, the girls’ U16 A team, coached by Lydia Muñoz, claimed the championship in the Final Phase, earning direct entry into the Spanish Championship with victories over Traumacoke El Pilar, Yomee Godella, and NBF Castelló. The boys’ U16 A team, coached by Vicent Revert, also claimed the title in their Final Phase by defeating TLSI Godella, Elx Basket Academy, and CBI Elche X Aitysa Ingeniería.

 

Now in the Spanish Championship, the girls’ U16 A team has been placed in Group A alongside Casademont Zaragoza (1st in Aragon), Cafés Candelas Ensino (1st in Galicia), and Club Náutico Sevilla (3rd in Andalusia). Meanwhile, the boys’ U16 A team shares Group D with Movistar Estudiantes (3rd in Madrid), Insolac CB Alcalá Caja87 (2nd in Andalusia), and SPB Prevennova (1st in Castile and León).

 

The competition format will be the same as in recent editions, with 32 teams divided into 8 groups of four teams. The top three teams from Groups A, B, C, and D, along with the group winners from Groups E, F, G, and H, will advance to the Round of 16. The tournament consists of three days of the regular season followed by four days of single-elimination rounds (Round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final).

Previous Results

In the last edition, the girls’ U16 A team was crowned Spanish Champion, winning the title for the third time after also doing so in 2021 and 2022. The boys’ U16 A team finished in fourth place, with their best finishes being bronze in 2022 and 1999.
