Valencia Basket takes home the silver at the Spanish Girls' Under-14 Championship. The girls' Under-14 A team, after a flawless tournament, was ultimately unable to defend its title for the second consecutive year, though it earned a well-deserved silver medal against CB Santfeliuenc. Both the boys’ Under-14 A team and the girls’ Under-14 B team were eliminated in the round of 16 and finished in 11th and 13th place, respectively. This silver medal is the fourth medal for Valencia Basket this summer, following the gold won by the girls’ Under-16 A team and the bronze medals won by the boys’ Under-16 A team and the girls’ Under-18 A team in their respective Spanish Championships.

 

The girls’ Under-14 A team completed a flawless group stage. Victories over CB Almería Cajamar Verde (25-76), Comeplastic Araski (35-85), and Movistar Estudiantes (70-49) allowed them to finish as group leaders. In the round of 16, they faced Dormitienda El Pilar, whom they comfortably defeated (72-53); in the quarterfinals, the team had to dig deep against Traveleando Alcobendas (61-55); and in the semifinals, Valencia Basket defeated Marcavel Real Canoe (76-56). In the final against Óptica Feliu CB Santfeliuenc, the first half was very close. In the third quarter, the Catalan team built a small lead with a late surge. By the final period, the gap had widened to 10 points. The Taronja squad tried to close the gap on several occasions but couldn’t quite pull it off. With 3 minutes left, the Catalan team extended their lead to +13, and Valencia Basket couldn’t mount a comeback in time (63-79).

 

The boys’ Under-16 A team had a tough road. In the group stage, they started with a loss to Gran Canaria (55-77), followed by a win against Joventut Badalona (54-76), and finished with a narrow defeat against Kern Pharma Tres Cantos (86-90). Valencia Basket advanced to the round of 16 as the third-place team, where they faced a powerful Barça squad that gave them no chance (95-58). Meanwhile, the girls’ Under-14 B team started with losses to Joventut Badalona (46-72) and Unicaja (73-60), but a final victory over Aranguren Multibasket (77-71) allowed them to finish third and qualify for the playoffs. In the round of 16, they faced Óptica Feliu CB Santfeliuenc—who would go on to be the girls’ Under-14 A team’s opponent in the final and ultimately the champion—and were unable to overcome them (75-45).
