Valencia Basket Presents the 3rd edition of its social program “Entrenando con Referentes”

  • 06 / 10 / 2026

This morning, L’Alqueria del Basket hosted the presentation of the third season of “Entrenando con Referentes,” a social program by Valencia Basket led by Paco Pardo, coordinator of the Personal Development department. This program aims to build relationships with others, share a space, and learn through each experience, while collaborating with organizations that include people from diverse backgrounds.

The presentation brought together several people involved in the project to share their perspectives on what the program contributes to each of the participating organizations. Alberto Dolz, coach at ADERES; David Casinos, Paralympic hopeful; Rafa Grilles, from the Levante UD Foundation; David Soler, from Aspromivise; and Xavi Albert, head coach of Valencia Basket’s men’s first team.

Vlado Babic, coordinator of L’Alqueria del Basket, stated that “by helping our players develop that capacity to overcome challenges, that empathy, that camaraderie—we honestly believe this is an ideal program and, above all, it delivers on what we call ‘actions, not words’ here at the club. We understand that for the well-rounded development we want for all our players, this program—with the people who support us—delivers on that.”

Alberto Dolz, from ADERES, admits that for the participants from his association, “it’s a spectacular day of sports, of basketball, of sharing it with the coaches here at the club and with the club’s players. I think it’s very important to spend time with the city’s flagship club and, above all, with the youth team players.”

David Soler, from Aspromivise, agrees with Dolz and adds that “these people want to be part of society, and this provides them with one of the best tools available. And the fact that young people at a formative age have these experiences is a seed that’s planted deep inside them and will surely bear fruit in the future. Ultimately, what we want is to develop good people.”

David Casinos, a Paralympic athlete, admits that “being visible is very important; sometimes we aren’t, and the activity we do involves covering our eyes—not to prevent them from seeing, but so they can see, so they can experience all the situations that exist out there, situations that are complicated. We want them to become those role models—not to have a role model who doesn’t have a disability, but one who lives with a disability. We want that, too; we want change.”

Rafa Grilles, from the LUD Foundation, adds that “young people are the ones who most need to pass on these values to future generations and also show that, even though we may sometimes face difficulties, with a lot of effort we can overcome them to fulfill our dreams.”

Xavi Albert, a coach who has worked with the youth academy, noted that thanks to these workshops, the youth players’ role models “shift from always being those first-team players who embody the glamour of a famous, top-tier star, to valuing a person who demonstrates day in and day out that everything can be overcome.”

Finally, Paco Pardo shared the updates for this new edition, explaining that “we’re going to expand the program to include our second-year U16 teams, which will consist of 15-year-old boys and girls. We’re also going to include some new activities in the program that will be led by Boccia. And then there will be an initial activity with Javier Planells, an artist who paints using both his mouth and his feet—which will be a new experience as well. Through this cultural aspect, we also want to bring people closer to sports and all the goals we’ve set for ourselves here.”
