Adidas Next Generation 2020 presented at L’Alqueria del Basket

The Adidas Next Generation Tournament returns to Valencia with Euroleague Basketball. The best U18 basketball on the continent will bring together eight teams in L’Alqueria del Basket that will compete from December 27 to 29 at the home of European basketball training. The first qualifying tournament of the season was presented this morning on the center court of L'Alqueria del Basket, with the presence of Mari Ángeles Vidal, coordinator of L'Alqueria del Basket, Xavi Albert, coach of the junior A team of Valencia Basket who will play this tournament and the men's squad player Klemen Prepelic, who participated in this tournament in the 2009-10 season with the Union Olimpija Ljubjana youth team.

The Valencia Basket U18 team is included in group B together with the U18 teams of Unicaja Málaga, Joventut de Badalona and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne, while in group A they will face ratiopharm Ulm, Nanterre 92, FC Barcelona and Herbalife Gran Canaria. The first to speak was Xavi Albert, who said that “we’re lucky to be the first of the phases. One of the characteristics of the tournament here in Valencia is equality. There are surprises, there are top-level teams. And in a year like this, special, different, in which it has been so difficult to carry out many competitions, where the great part of international tournaments are stopping, we’re lucky that we can enjoy it here and that we can play it at home".

Klemen Prepelic remembered his participation in this tournament a decade ago. A moment of which he has “very good memories. We played the qualifier in London against very good teams and we won this tournament to qualify for the Final Four in Paris. We won two out of three but we did not qualify for the final. Despite this, I have very good memories of as a young man playing a tournament as important as this is a luxury and you have to make the most of it”.
