Gómez Otero: "Having top coaches once a month is fantastic"

The training sessions for coaches of the Cátedra de Baloncesto with the Universitat de València and the support of Bankia continue to be held in L'Alqueria del Basket. In March, the sixth day took place, as always at the Valencia Basket facilities, with Daniel Gómez Otero as guest. This clinic -presential and online- was followed by coaches, mainly from the Valencian Community, but also from Asturias, Gran Canaria, Zaragoza, Lleida and even from Ecuador and Scotland.


Daniel is an individual coach for the development of post players in the ACB, Euroleague and NBA leagues and is currently working as an "International Scout" in the Phoenix Suns franchise. His presentation in this training day was based on "Playing from the screen away". The coach explained that this topic is about "developing screen away work but more focused on training, not so much on collective tactics. The idea is that coaches learn how to convert a collective work of screening away into a work of individual development. Analyzing and taking the 5v5 form to more analytical situations. I think it is very interesting for the training of youth players".


About Valencia Basket's training days, integrated in the Basketball Chair, he assessed that "it’s wonderful. Talking with Andreu Casadevall and Chechu Mulero, it’s a very important initiative, very necessary for coaches and that’s appreciated. There have been many times that we have had gaps in the training of coaches and having the possibility of bringing top level coaches as Valencia has brought to work with them and learn from them and having this availability once a month is fantastic and very useful for coaches".
