Maldonado: “I advise young coaches to have enthusiasm for the game”

The training days for coaches of the Basketball Chair with the University of València and the support of Caixabank continue in L'Alqueria del Basket. The main court hosted the seventh clinic of this season with the prestigious coach Salva Maldonado. This day -presential and online- was followed by coaches from the Valencian Community and other parts of Spain and even abroad.

 

Maldonado took his first steps as a coach in youth teams of Catalan teams and in the Joventut de Badalona youth teams. TDK Manresa was his first experience in ACB as head coach in the 97-98 season, with which he won the Copa del Rey. After several seasons in LEB, he returned to ACB coaching Gran Canaria, Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, Joventut de Badalona, Estudiantes or San Pablo Burgos. He is also the 5th coach with the most games coached in the history of the Endesa League with a total of 616.

 

In his presentation on "Dynamic game and spaces", the coach sought to "reflect on aspects of the game, not purely technical, but more conceptual for coaches. To see if they can find some detail they had not thought of or some situation that can help them improve or if we reflect on the rhythm of the game and the value it has".

 

For Maldonado, being part of these conferences "is a pleasure because they are vital in this interconnected world, so interconnected with images and of little listening and a lot of watching. To have this kind of contact with other coaches, to see other visions. This is part of the coach's growth. As one of the coaches with the most games in the history of the Endesa League, he reflected that "being many years with the difficulties involved in this difficult world of coaching makes you satisfied. Valencia Basket has created this year the Coach Experience, showing the Club's methodology. This activity took place with Vlado Babic, coordinator of the School, who gave a talk on the methodological progression and the design of tasks in mini-basketball stages: "I consider it essential for coaches to come to these activities for their training because of everything they can then transfer to their players. One of the most important aspects is that we always keep in mind the sensitive stage in which we are carrying out our work as coaches as it is the minibasket and keep in mind that apart from the athlete is the person and we have to instill in them day by day a series of values and experiences that serve them in their integral growth".
