A bronze in the Minicopa Endesa won with “a lot of pride”

Valencia Basket completed a great Minicopa Endesa to equal the second best historical classification of the taronja U14 team in the tournament. The best if you only count the new format that was introduced in the 2015-16 season. A third place in Granada achieved with a lot of effort and teamwork of the team coached by Paco Llorens.

 

The player Javier Viguer said about this experience that "we have lived it with great intensity. It has been a fantastic Minicopa. We have enjoyed it very much and we are very happy. You always hope to reach the final, to try to win it, but with the third place we are proud to be able to make history in the Club". Coach Paco Llorens agreed and added that "we are very happy, not only for getting the bronze, but also on a human level because the boys have behaved very well and have been very united, especially in the previous talks and afterwards. I think the team has grown a lot in this tournament".

 

The first game could have changed the future of Valencia Basket in the Minicopa Endesa. A 16-point comeback in the last quarter gave the Taronja an important first victory. Viguer analyzed that "we started super nervous because it is the most mediatic tournament we had ever played. In the end, because of our desire and because we are a very united team, we managed to win. We clicked with the idea that we had to win for us, for the team, for everything we had fought to get there... We could not lose". For Llorens, the key was at halftime: "The Unicaja game was a little complicated for us. At halftime we corrected certain things that we thought could help us. Some players showed their pride and we got the victory".

 

Viguer explained how during the rest of the tournament "we got rid of our nerves and advanced better. Against Betis we were qualified and they needed to win, so we lost our concentration a little bit. Then against Tenerife we tried everything and then against Betis we managed to win" the match for the bronze medal. A triumph that was achieved with a very distributed scoring. Llorens admitted that "in that game you can see the reflection of the work done in L'Alqueria. When one player is bad another is good and when some players were loaded with fouls the team pulled forward. We’re keeping the fact that the team worked hard to win the game".
