The second silver medal in a Spanish Children's Championship in the mouths of its protagonists

Valencia Basket won just a few days ago its second silver medal in a U14 Spanish Championship for girls. Best position ever obtained by the Club in the tournament in this category, together with the runner-up in the Spanish U18 Women's Championship in the 20-21 season. It was also the fifth silver overall for Valencia Basket, including the women's U18 of this year and the two men's U18 of the 96-97 and 08-09 seasons. A great achievement for a team that has lived a "Championship of growth" and now share their coach and two players on behalf of all.

 

The road to silver was not easy. On the first day of the group stage the team started with a defeat. Their coach Marta Sorlí explained that "the first game is always very nervous and it was not easy at all, against the current Minicopa champion. We knew it was going to be a game that was going to demand a lot from us. The basketball sensations were good, what we needed was to find ourselves a little more as a team and sensations. We talked and when you talk about things as a team we were able to overcome that game and we went up".

 

As an overall assessment Sorlí indicates that "I could call it a Championship of growth because every day we were 1% better than the day before. We continued to do the things we were doing very well and those that were costing us a little more to improve them for the next game. In that line we played very well, it was our best moment of the season, where we played the best, where we enjoyed the most, where we shared the ball better, where we defended... That was our hallmark and we enjoyed it".

 

The word enjoy is key. A sentiment shared by two of his players, Naia Valero and Alejandra Caballero. Naia confesses that "apart from the fact that we have all improved a lot in terms of basketball, I will always take friendships with me and above all my coach. I think that, although we lost the final we have enjoyed it, we have given everything and although we have felt bad at that moment we will always remember it". For her part, Alejandra valued that "it is a very nice experience because not everyone can live it. To get so far makes us very excited because we have been working all season, in the end we have achieved what we wanted and we have all enjoyed it". About the pass to the final she recalled that "it was very nice because no one expected to get so far. We all jumped up and down to win a semi-final, people started crying with emotion, in the locker room we threw water on each other...". Memories that will live with them forever.
