Spanish U14 Women Champions for the first time!

Valencia Basket has been crowned Spanish U14 Women Champion for the first time in its history after a nail-biting final against Joventut Badalona. In a game with a heart-stopping finish, the Taronja team managed to hold on in the final moments to secure a historic 82-84 victory. Anastasia Lishchuk had an outstanding performance with 26 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, and 38 efficency. L'Alqueria del Basket thus adds its fifth Spanish Championship, with the three won by the girls' U16 team (20-21, 21-22, and 24-25) and the one won by the boys' U12 team (22-23).

 

The U14 women A team started the Spanish Championship with a great group stage, with wins against Casademont Zaragoza A (62-73), La Mafia Babieca (60-88) and Jansen BT A (71-50). In the round of 16, they faced Gestión y Color Cordobasket, whom they beat 71-36. In the difficult quarterfinal match against Spar Gran Canaria, the Taronja team also gave their opponents no chance (53-66). In the semifinals, Valencia Basket gave Fundación Alcobendas no chance with a 44-81 victory that earned them a direct ticket to the final.

 

In the final, the Taronja team faced Joventut Badalona in a game in which they dominated the first quarter, ending with a 7-point lead. In the second quarter, the Catalan team reacted to tighten things up at halftime, with Valencia Basket holding a narrow lead. After the break, Joventut Badalona came out stronger and took a 7-point lead at the end of the third quarter. Then came the reaction from the Valencians. By pushing hard, they managed to go on a 7-0 run to turn the score around and take a 5-point lead with 3:46 left. However, the Catalans went on a 9-0 run and took a +5 lead with 1:17 left in the game. The Taronja coach called a timeout. Points from Anastasia Lishchuk and a three-pointer from Carbonell put Valencia Basket one point behind with 14 seconds left. Joventut called a timeout. Lishchuk was fouled on a rebound and scored two crucial free throws to put the Taronja team up by one. Another timeout by the Catalan team, after which their players failed to score and Martínez was fouled, earning her free throws with 5 seconds left, of which she made one. There was no time for more and the victory was Taronja's. Impeccable management of the final moments and a great reward for Valencia Basket's efforts with their first Spanish U14 Women Championship.

 

For their part, the U14 men A team had a tough road in the Spanish Championship. In the group stage, they started with a 48-86 defeat to Real Madrid and then reaped two big victories against Occident Bàsquet Manresa A (65-82) and Maristas CBA (109-77). However, in the round of 16, they were unable to overcome Canterbury School in a game that ended 73-92.

 

The U14 women B team put in an extraordinary performance in the group stage, finishing top thanks to victories over Martín Deco Patronato (92-64), Náutico Tenerife Ull (74-38) and CN Helios A (52-60). In the round of 16, they ended a fantastic run with a defeat against Spar Gran Canaria (65-41).
