Valencia Basket wins bronze at the Spanish U18 Women's Championship

Valencia Basket claimed the bronze medal at the Spanish U18 Women’s Championship held in Huelva. The Taronja team came close to reaching the final in a closely contested semifinal against Gran Canaria, which ultimately slipped away, but they were able to end the tournament on a high note by securing the bronze in a thrilling third-place game against Sabadell. This is the club’s third bronze medal in this category, with its best performance being the silver medal in the 2023–24 season. Meanwhile, the U18 A men’s team faced a difficult path in their Spanish Championship and ultimately finished in 11th place.

 

The women’s U18 A team started with a flawless group stage, securing victories over Femení Sant Adrià (64-51), Casademont Zaragoza (55-75), and Zentro Basket Madrid (77-45), which allowed them to finish as group leaders. In the round of 16, they faced Seis Do Nadal Coia Vigo, whom they easily defeated 95-44. In the quarterfinals, UNB Sports CB Santfeliuenc awaited them, and Valencia Basket also managed to win that match 87-69. Then came the semifinals, where the Taronja team had to face the always tough Gran Canaria. It was a very close game, which the Canarians broke open in the third quarter, and despite Valencia Basket’s attempt at a comeback, the lead ultimately slipped away. In the third-place game, Cristina García’s squad played a very strong 40 minutes against Sabadell, giving them no chance with a 93-49 victory, securing the bronze medal and capping off the Spanish Championship on a high note.

 

As for the U18 A men’s team, they began their group stage campaign with losses to Zentro Basket Madrid (81-94) and Gran Canaria (66-64) and a win over CBA Spain (70-64). That final victory allowed them to finish third in their group and advance to the round of 16, where they faced the top team from Group A, Barça. Valencia Basket competed very well for 30 minutes, but in the final quarter they were unable to match their opponent’s offensive pace, ultimately falling 87-71 and thus finishing the Spanish Championship in 11th place.
