Elba Garfella: “Being in the Mur dels Somnis is a reward for the work”

 Elba Garfella will be the tenth player to have her name on the Mur dels Somnis (Wall of Dreams) since the creation of L'Alqueria in 2017. To date there are four players already registered (Alex Vera, Ion Galarza, Lorena Segura and Guillem Ferrando) in the absence of being able to register the remaining six (Claudia Contell, Millán Jiménez, Paula García, Alejandro Bellver, Awa Fam and Elba Garfella) when the health situation allows to safely celebrate the act of inclusion.

 

The player from Manises was the last to earn a place in the Mur dels Somnis. Elba made her debut with the women's first team last December 29 in the J14 of the LF Endesa against Tenerife in La Fonteta. "When they told me that I was going to be called I did not expect it. The moment he said my name I was nervous, but more excited. I had in my head that I wanted to play well, enjoy the moment, because it was something that made me very happy. After all, I have been here since I was 11 years old and it was my dream. It was a surprise and I enjoyed it very much", confesses the Valencian player.

 

The inside player played 14 minutes and contributed 3 points and 3 rebounds for the victory of Rubén Burgos' team, but she assures that "the goal I had was to have fun. It was a moment I had been dreaming of for many years. I wanted to enjoy myself, the atmosphere, the teammates and everything made it easier".

 

There were a few minutes when Elba, Claudia and Awa, who have also shared the court in L'Alqueria teams, got together on the court at the same time: "It was a very special moment. Claudia has been my teammate for many years and we have been together practically all our lives. Awa is a player that I have also had the opportunity to know personally and she is a great person. It was a moment that reflects the values that they are trying to transmit in L'Alqueria with the Culture of Endeavour and is a reflection that with a lot of perseverance, effort and work you can achieve the dreams that you propose.

 

As with the rest of the 2021 debutants, Elba will have to wait to have her name inscribed in the Mur dels Somnis when the health situation allows the event to be held. But very soon, her name will go down in the history of L'Alqueria: "For me to be on the Mur dels Somnis is a dream. I came here when I was 11 years old with no idea of what could happen to me and being there means a reward for all the work. Without the help of the teammates I've had, coaches, physios and technicians in general, I could not have gotten here".

 

The player from Manises, who has gone through all the Youth teams since U14, shares her best memories of taronja: "This, above all, but also the time when we got to be third of Spain (U16) in L'Alqueria with the full main court. That moment was very special for me and we also had an incredible human group. It is one of the best moments I have lived here".

 

With the inclusion of Elba there will be a total of five women in the Mur dels Somnis, which means that the players of L'Alqueria have more and more role models to follow. "For me it is a great responsibility. Being the example for the girls is a very important thing. They have to focus on making their way, going little by little, enjoying the journey, which is what you take with you. Then you can have your reward or not, but at least you will have enjoyed what you have experienced. That's the most important thing," concludes the Valencian.
