Awa Fam, the youngest player to make the debut with Valencia Basket

U16 Awa Fam became last night the youngest player to debut in the history of Valencia Basket with 15 years, 5 months and 15 days old, after her debut with the women's first team. The center thus surpasses Pablo Perez, who debuted with the men's first team with 16 years, seven months and 23 days old in the highest competition of Spanish basketball. Awa makes taronja history and will be the ninth player to be included in the Mur dels Somnis.

 

Since the inauguration of L'Alqueria del Basket, the Mur dels Somnis has been a very special part of it. Located at the main access to the main court, it is a list of all the players who have made their debut with Valencia Basket's professional team in the highest national category or in an international game, after having completed in the Club's youth teams the two years prior to their debut.

 

Alex Vera was the first to join his name to the illustrious ones that already appeared in the Mur with the creation of the facility. Since then, two more male players (Ion Galarza and Guillem Ferrando) and one female player (Lorena Segura) have been able to join that long list, which today is an example for everyone in the home of European basketball training. Millán Jiménez, Claudia Contell, Paula García and Alejandro Bellver have also fulfilled the requirements and will be included as soon as the health situation allows the celebration of their event.

 

The same happens now with Awa Fam, who will join these names. The player made her debut in the J6 of the group stage of the EuroCup Women against Durán Maquinaria Ensino in La Fonteta. She played in the starting five and played 5 minutes and grabbed one rebound.

 

Awa Fam will be the ninth player to be part of the Mur dels Somnis de L'Alqueria since its creation. The Club will celebrate -as it happens with Millán, Claudia, Paula and Alejandro- her act of inclusion when the health situation allows it, following the recommendations of the health authorities.

 

Requirements to be included in the Mur dels Somnis

The requirements to be fulfilled by a Valencia Basket player to obtain the recognition in the Mur are the following:

 

  • The Club understands as youth categories the U14, U16 and U18 stages.
  • The debut must take place in an official competition game, European or national at the highest level, with the Professional Team (friendly matches are not taken into account).
  • The player must have played in the Club's youth categories in the two years prior to his/her debut with the Professional Team.
  • In the event that a player debuts without having completed the two years in a youth team and continues training at the Club until he/she completes them later, it will be his/her participation in official competition after that time that will be taken into account for inclusion in the Mur dels Somnis.

 

About Awa Fam

 

The player was born in Santa Pola, Alicante, where she was playing basketball until 2019, when she came to Valencia Basket. Awa is in her third season at the Club and in this time she has already participated in some of the great recent successes of the taronja women's youth teams. In 2020 she was Champion of the Minicopa LF Endesa 2020 with the U14 A team. In 2021 she was Champion of Spain U15 with Valencia Basket, as well as MVP of the tournament, and was also Champion of Spain U16 Autonomous Selections with the Valencian Community. She is currently part of the U16 Spanish National Team, although she is still U16. Last season, still being a first year U15 player, she was alternating training and games with U16 A and U18 A teams. This season, being part of the U16 A squad, she is also playing regularly with U18 A team and Senior National Team and sporadically trains with the women's professional team, which has led her to this debut.
