L’Alqueria del Basket, guarantee of security to receive the EuroLeague Basketball ANGT

L’Alqueria del Basket hosts the EuroLeague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament in less than a month. A U18 category tournament that brings together 8 teams, four Spanish and four foreigners. In a context of uncertainty, L’Alqueria del Basket shows how it is possible to host a non-professional international competition.

The coordinator of the facility Mª Angeles Vidal explains the details: “We are fortunate to hold an important tournament in the U18 category at a time when even competitions of a much higher level are having uncertainties when it comes to the development of their matches and events. This situation has not come to us as a surprise”.

Since the outbreak of this situation, L’Alqueria del Basket has shown to be one step ahead. Vidal recalls that “we have been preparing for situations like this for many months and that has allowed us to be in the best conditions to be able to guarantee the development of this event. Our day-to-day lives are heir to an accumulated experience in recent months of a very important magnitude”. The coordinator highlights the celebration of the Final Phase of the ACB the meeting of all the Spanish national teams that have been able to develop -both of the youth and senior categories-, or the events, matches, training sessions and competitions that have been played.

As a consequence, Vidal assures that this guarantees the reliability of the facilities: “It places us in a fairly comfortable position to be able to collaborate so that this type of event does not disappear and no one considers cancelling it. We have shared our protocol with the EuroLeague, which is highly contrasted, and has given the go-ahead”.

Going into the detail, apart from the fact that the teams will be in a bubble, the coordinator explains that “we will be able to offer each of the teams an exclusive locker room for them during all the days of the competition and training. We have time shifts in and out and strict cleaning systems. We have access control through Sothis equipment that allow you to enter to the facility with automatic temperature control and we have our internal protocols that require responsible declarations that we hope we will never have to use but that would allow us to have a traceability of any problem".

Turning to the medical section, L’Alqueria del Basket doctor Vicente Sebastiá says that “a PCR will be carried out upon the arrival of the players, both for foreign and Spanish teams. We will do a daily health questionnaire where we will check the temperature and health status of each one to verify that there is no impediment to the course of the competition”.

Talking about the foreigner teams –in this case LDLC Asvel Villeurbanne, Nanterre 92, ratiopharm Ulm and Umana Reyer Venice- “will come with PCR carried out in their respective countries. Then here we will take control and prepare a presence to be able to carry out the PCR at the departure of the different teams so that they can take the planes back and get to their countries without having any problem”. Regarding medical care, Sebastiá clarifies that "we have a series of boxes that we will have disinfected and that we will use exclusively for tournament players, where we maintain all security measures."
